4-diari-danielapoggiGoal of the day: search for Mozambique with Google!

I swear that I started my research just like that: by typing “Mozambique” into Google.

Then I went further with a more specific search pattern: ” Mozambican theater “. And so on, in three hours I collected the names of the main theaters of the country.

I discovered something interesting: in 2006, in Maputo, the capital, the actress Daniela Poggi made the short film Won’t Pay! Social Theater, in collaboration with the Avenida Theater and inspired by a play by Dario Fo.

Why the Avenida theater and why Dario Fo?

Because in 1996, at the Avenida theater in Maputo, the play Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay! (Non si paga! Non si paga!), was put on stage by the Mutumbela Gogo theater company. The short film by Daniela Poggi takes over a part of this show to tell the story of the actors and of the company.

I manage to get in touch with the actress and I meet her in her house in Rome. She is very helpful and gives me all the information she has: I fill a couple of pages with notes on phone numbers, email addresses, the contacts of the Avenida Theater and also of other actors and companies. The details are a bit outdated and referring only to the area of Maputo but I’m happy on the train back, it’s a good start!
