Rehearsals, rehearsals, rehearsals… and that script in 3 languages…

It’s raining. And it’s going to rain all day. So the rehearsals are moved to a covered terrace.
And maybe this change helped to reset the previous days in some way, helped us return to the rehearsals with a new spirit.
The presence of Jacopo and Mario together, who have been alternating over the last few days, did the rest. Mario and Jacopo together are a flood of creativity and passion.
It’s me who is in difficulty today. We have to produce the final scripts in three languages, Italian, Portuguese and Swahili.
We are acting in Portuguese but when touring the villages the performance will be in Swahili. The Mozambicans will only recite in Portuguese at Maputo.
In a certain sense we’re rehearsing in the “wrong” language.
Even more, in the 15 years that I’ve been working with the Fo family, I can say for certain that there has never been a definitive script! Jacopo always adds something to his performances, if you ask Dario Fo about the script of Mistero Buffo (Strange Mystery) he will answer with: “Which version? Which year?”
And I have to produce a definitive script in three different languages within the next 5 days…
